Last Updated 26th July 2001
26th July Report
Tufnell Mere
very few swims as water level is
so high, about 10 feet above normal
Access very difficult
Blunts Mere
Water level has gone down a bit.
Access to island is now possible via an additional plank on island.
Carp showing to double figures, large Rudd around 3 lb and quite a
few Tench being caught.
Cants Mere
All swims fishable. Plenty of
double figure carp being caught. Best reported 21½ lb.
Wick Mere
A good start to season with
anglers catching all species of fish, including a Bream of 13lb.
Boreham Mere
Main lake fishing well for
general anglers with roach Rudd bream and Tench. Larger Carp are
proving to be a bit illusive but a couple of 30's have been caught.
Back Lake
fishing well. Anglers catching
plenty of carp around the 6lb mark. Crucians also showing well.
Carp/Small Pool
producing plenty of Rudd and
Tench.
Braxted
Reservoir has plenty of 4-5lb Carp, and Rudd are showing very well
to float
anglers.
Front Lake
fishing well for bream around
the 4lb mark, and some good carp.
Water level will be dropped in September. Working parties are to be
arranged to clear a lot of the trees in the margins and open up the
paths. Participants will be able to fish Braxted from 1st MAY next
season, subject to them re-joining. Keep an eye for notices giving
dates.
Back Lake
still as hard as ever with plenty of weed but has already produced
Tench over 10 lb and carp of 41 lb this season.
The Willows
Difficult but producing well for
the angler who puts in the time. At the beginning of the season the
Bream were spawning near the outlet. To see a couple of dozen double
figure fish is a really impressive sight. Several Bream over 13 lb
recorded this season. One angler had 5 over 10 lb in a session plus
others under 10 lb and a few carp.
The Chelmer
Fishing well in the usual
places. Swims cleared below Barns Mill lock at the beginning of the
season are proving popular and are producing good mixed fishing
including Tench and chub. Do not fish within 30m of the power
cables.
