2005 CATCH REPORTS

2005 Season bailiffs and members reports on fisheries

January

Regular visitors to Tufnell Mere twin brothers Sam & Brad Jones emailed to report on a cracking first day of the year fishing trip with fellow member Calum Carter. Sam started the session by landing a 5lb Common Carp, followed by three more during the day to 10lb. Sam's set up was two method feeder rods, baited with yellow and red sweetcorn and imitation yellow sweetcorn combinations on one rod, and dog biscuits soaked in Nash Tangee squid flavouring on the other. Brad had two Common Carp in the session to 8lb, and Calum settled for one fish to 4lb.
Boreham Mere Bailiff Mick Mosley's two hour session on the main mere resulted in two Carp in the upper 20's and a magnificent 32lb Mirror Carp, other reports of a few smaller Carp, Bream, Perch to 1lb 5ozs, some Silver fish, Pike to 16lb, and 2 Eels where also reported caught in January. The Back Lake produced Silver fish and a few small Carp and Renee's pool a 1lb 5oz Perch for member R Ashenden along with a mixed bag of Rudd, Roach, Skimmers, and a small Perch.

When Wayne Groves and his step father visited Tufnell Mere on the opening day of the season they reported that although the fishing was difficult they did manage five carp each between them, weights 9 - 11lb, Wayne's last fish of the day however was a personal best 18lb Common Carp, (see photo gallery 2) all fish where caught off the surface. Hair rigged Trout paste did the trick for club member Ross King also at Tufnell Mere with two Common Carp 9 and 11lb. A mid week trip to Wick Mere resulted in a staggering 25 Carp for Andrew Lyon, three that weighed in at 19lb, Andy also paid a visit to the Reservoir at Braxted in May and landed a superb conditioned personal best 25lb Common Carp. (see photo gallery 2). The Willows at Braxted has produced a fantastic 29lb 4oz Common Carp for Andrew Brew, (see photo gallery 2). (possibly a Willows record)
Serious Carp angler Peter Harrington got off to a cracking start to the season when he landed four superb conditioned Carp at Boreham Mere (see photo gallery 2), two Common Carp 21lb 5oz and 28lb 11oz two Mirror Carp 27lb and 28lb 13oz.
Isobel Miles aged 6 first fishing trip has certainly got her hooked after a trip to Blunts Mere. With the help of dad and a 15 minute battle her first fish was a stunning 21lb Common Carp. Using hair rigged sweetcorn on a size 8 hook to 8lb line also produced Isobel's second fish a beautifully scaled 10lb 6oz Mirror Carp. (Photos to follow)

June

Club member Calum Carter thought that the weather may have been against him on a recent visit to Tufnell Mere, but by lunch time the fishing began to "kick into action" as he put it! By the end of the session Calum bagged up a 93lb haul of fish, 14 Carp to 8lb 4oz's and a 2lb 8oz Tench all on the Method feed with sweetcorn as hook bait.
Proud dad Ken Kendall was keen to publish his sons Tyler, aged 7, photo of a magnificent 15lb 12oz personal best Mirror Carp from the Reservoir at Braxted. (See photo gallery 2).
Two consecutive days on Tufnell Mere accounted for an incredible 182lb of 22 Carp plus 1 Bream for Calum Carter, with fish up to 14lb. Fishing close in with a single piece of sweetcorn or a pellet did the trick on Calum's Method feeder set up.
A 21lb 4oz Common Carp (See photo gallery 2) was amongst the 10 Carp caught by member Glen Howell at Blunts Mere, the catch also included two at 17lb and a 16lb fish, all caught on Maize. Another trip to Blunts Mere was was also productive for Glen, when again fishing the margins with Maize he landed 8 Carp, he had a 21lb and 16lb fish at the same time.

July

Stewart Aitchinson sent in a catch report letting the club know of his recent visit to Blunts Mere where he netted 21 Carp to 19lbs.
Regular catch reporter Calum Carter emailed the club to tell us about his massive haul of fish from his favourite Tufnell Mere venue, 29 Carp to 9lb 14oz, 3 Tench to 3lb 8oz, and 3 Bream made up the 232lb total weight. Method feeder with Corn or Bread produced most of the fish, sounds like Calum had an 'Action Packed Day'
Barry Skinner netted a splendid 14lb 7oz Wick Mere Common Carp to get his season underway. (See photo gallery 2) New member Scott Noll  kicked his season off with a 13lb Common Carp also at Wick Mere. (See photo gallery 1)

August

Carp mad Pete Harrington ended a 36 hour session on Boreham Main Mere by landing 7 Carp to 24lb 13oz's, plus 4 Bream. See 6 of Pete's cracking Carp on the photo gallery 2 page. Renee's pool produced Tench to 2lb 8oz and a Perch that weighed in at a massive 4lb 11oz.  Andy Lyon landed 30 Carp to 22lb 9oz's on a weekend stint at Blunts Mere.

September

Boreham Main Mere producing lots of quality Bream and the odd Carp. Silver fish are plentiful which also means Pike are showing. Member Paul Baynes contacted the club having had the best days Pike fishing in 25 years, including a 22lb 2oz personal best, plus two other Pike 6lb 8oz's and 7lb 3oz. Paul also lost 2 more Pike, including a good double. Popped up Half Mackerel ledged was the recipe for the day! Cants and Blunts Mere have slowed down. Jeremy Leyde sent the club a catch report having had a really good days fishing on Tufnell Mere, every time Jeremy reeled in his method feeders he landed a fish, 17 Carp to 23lb, (See photo gallery 2) and 3 small Bream. Bait included Sweetcorn, a Crazy bait and a Vitalin mix ground bait.

October

The Willows at Braxted produced a 31lb 4oz Carp, the Bream fishing has slowed down although plenty of Silver fish are being caught. Boreham Back Lake is fishing well for Carp and Tench, and there are also Tench to be had from Renee's pool. Carp to 20lb still showing in the Main Mere, and Pike in the mid 20's. The Bream fishing is still excellent, the complex has been busy at the weekends, as have Cants, and Wick Mere.
