2006 CATCH REPORTS

2006 Season bailiffs and members reports on fisheries

January

Club member Ross Kings visit to the Boreham Mere fishery got off to a cold and very slow start, having spent some time ledgering on the Back Lake Ross decided to change tactics and move onto Renee's Pool. Float fishing sweetcorn with 3lb line over bread crumb eventually produced a couple of nice Roach, and 2 Crucian Carp. Reports of a 2½lb Perch from the main mere, and a 2lb Perch in Renee's Pool had also been reported caught. Bailiff Ken Gough managed a Pike to 24lb on the main mere although generally most anglers had been struggling. P Johnson reported his best days winter Carp fishing when he netted fish between 5lb& 15lb on Cants Mere, either on Maggot or Corn hook bait. Cants Mere also had reports of another Carp to 26lb being caught. David Iddon sent the club a catch report on behalf of his brother John who only joined the club this season. Although temperatures where only just above freezing John landed 163lb of Carp, including five at 8lb, a 15lb, 17lb and an 19lb at Cants Mere, other members on the lake struggled for bites, John's float fished Red Maggots as hook bait, and loose feed seemed to do the trick!

February

Blunts Mere produced an 18lb Common Carp for club member Stewart Aitchison

March

Even an iced up Blunts Mere could not stop member James Chisholm landing a 15lb 8oz Carp in the early hours of the morning on Tecni Spice pop-up boilie.

April

May

The new season has got off to a flyer with most venues fishing well, beware weekends busy on most waters. Blunts Mere produced four 20lb Carp to one angler on the opening weekend. Member Steve Waters landed seven Carp to16lb 8oz on Blunts, all on boilies. Reports of 130lb bags of BIG Bream from The Willows, and plenty of Carp on the Method being caught at Tufnell Mere. Regular Boreham Mere fanatic Pete Harrington (Not me, this guys better looking?) sent a detailed catch report of his start to the new season along with photos (See photo gallery 3). Fishing 'The Reeds' swim produced three Carp, 21lb, 21lb 8oz and 23lb on the first two days of the season. The following weekend Pete opted for 'The Logs' swim taking two Carp 15lb 8oz & 21lb 8oz and to top it all Pete's young lady Philipa landed her first ever Boreham Mere Carp 14lb 8oz. Braxted Reservoir saw Carp enthusiast Glen Howell land a magnificent 39lb Common Carp just after day break on the 12th May, three grains of maize over a bed of hemp tempted the big fish. (See photo gallery 3) School mates Bradley Jones (or Brad as he likes to be known) and Calum Carter have been fishing their favourite Tufnell Mere venue every other day after school since the new season started, each 3 hour session has produced good bags of Carp to 12lb, the lads are using the method with small baits? Club member Nigel Pidgeon emailed photos of himself and his 5 year old son Jack. (See photo gallery 3) Nigel can be seen posing with a beautifully conditioned 31lb 10oz Common Carp taken on Chum mixers off the top at the Front Lake Braxted, Jacks first ever Carp was attracted to a Pineapple pop-up at Wick Mere. An 8lb Tench was caught by member Steven Waters on Boreham Main Mere, the magnificent specimen fell to Trout pellet bait. (See photo gallery 3) Club member Jim Cole was kind enough to email a picture to the club of fellow member Vivien Pratt and his stunning 32lb 4oz Common Carp caught at the Front Lake Braxted. (See photo gallery 3) Stephen Taylor's fantastic haul of fish from Tufnell Mere included ten Carp to 18lb 8oz, six Bream to 4lb, and two Tench, 4lb & 4lb 4oz. Stephen caught the 18 fish using a method feeder baited with a single grain of sweetcorn all in the space of 5 hours. Ross King and his friend Craig Philpot emailed the club to report on there recent visit to the very under estimated Broads Green lake. Between the lads they landed Carp to 16lb 4oz (See photo gallery 3) all on Dog biscuit surface baits.

June

Bailiff Nigel Pidgeon's 5 year old son Jack has managed a 10lb 9oz common Carp from The Willows lake at Braxted, with just a little help from dad Jack landed the cracking double (See photo gallery 3)   Nigel said Jack loves his fishing and is always keen to go with dad. Club member Paul Eve had a busy 3 hour session on Broads Green landing nine Common Carp between 9lb & 13lb. The Back Lake Braxted has produced a 43lb Carp which took a surface bait. Boreham Main Mere is producing plenty of Bream, Tench and Roach. Blunts Mere is fishing extremly well for Crucian Carp & Tench, also reports of a Mirror Carp to 36½lb caught.

July

Although overcast & windy the open match on Tufnell Mere produced  over 550lb of fish for the 18 anglers, the main species being 77 Carp, 19 Bream and 4 Tench, no Roach or Perch were caught. The winning weight was caught by Kevin Howell 129lb 11oz, (See match results.) Crazy Carper AKA Andy Lyon produced three stunning Carp, two 20's and a 19 on boilies from the 'Boards Swim' at Boreham's main mere (See photo gallery 3)

August

Nineteen Carp in a 3 hour evening session on Tufnell Mere with a total weight of around a 100lbs produced club member Louis Herinckx best ever evening stint. The Carp picked up the Scopex Squid Liver boilies fished over a bed of high oil content micro pellets. Regular visitor to Tufnell Mere Calum Carter recorded his personal best Common Carp which weighed 19lb 6oz. Calum landed a total of 20 Carp on his two visits to his favourite lake at the beginning of August, using a method feeder and ledger, baited with either sweetcorn or dumb bells. (See photo gallery 3). Five year old Jack Pidgeon's has been at it again, with just a little help from dad Nigel Jack landed a 20lb 4oz Common Carp from the Front Lake at Braxted. Having sat and watched dad catch 2 Carp 22lb & 10lb Jack finally got his reward 8 hours into the session, and has not stopped talking about it. (See photo gallery 3). Harry Baker landed 10 Carp up to 21lb 3oz on a recent visit to Blunts Mere fishing close to the margins. Harry used pop-up Tutti Fruity boilies as bait fished close to the margins. (See photo gallery 3).

September

Club member Tim Smith landed 7 fantastic double figure Carp weighing between 10lb & 19lb in one session at  Blunts Mere.  A six hour session for brothers Rob and Mark Kirk produced an astounding 100 Carp between 2lb &15lb. Fishing at close range the lads ledgered mainly Worm or Pepperoni, also Sweetcorn. Rob said this has to be one his favourite CAA venues and will certainly be fishing there more regular. A 24 hour session on Cants Mere for three first year members Joe Cartwright, Mark Rendell, and also there friend Rob netted the lads collectively 300lb of Carp weighing between 1lb and 14lb. Please can any one help? A Sony camera was lost at the Front Lake Braxted during September. Please contact Mr Jon Dumont on 01268 562688 or email thedumonts@dsl.pipex.com or contact the club if you have found it, or know someone that may have picked it up.

October

Eight year old Victoria Baynes landed nine Carp including four doubles on only her 2nd ever fishing trip with dad Paul. Victoria was fishing at close range on Tufnell Mere and her best fish weighed in at 13lb 10oz and fell to hair rigged pellet. (See photo gallery 3). Club member Harry Baker used ledgered Strawberry flavoured Chewit sweets to catch Carp up to 14lb on Cants Mere, Harry said its a fantastic bait! Hair rigged boilie done the trick for Dean Robinson on The Front Lake at Braxted landing him a cracking 28lb Common Carp. Member Paul Cox emailed the club after catching a superb 20lb 6oz Common Carp from The Reservoir at Braxted (See photo gallery 4), Paul says the CAA is the best club by far! Neighbours Simon Henderson and Paul Palmer fished The Reservoir at Braxted on Paul's 31st birthday. Both fishing boilies as bait Simon landed a 19lb 2oz Common Carp, and Paul weighed in at 24lb 8oz (See photo gallery 4). Regular catch reporter Ross King believes he landed the same 15lb 11oz Common Carp within 5 minutes on Blunts Mere,  (See photo gallery 4) Ross said unless this fish had an identical twin he was 100% sure he landed the self same fish he had caught and returned only a minutes previous! Fishing with either Worm, or Muscle & Crab flavoured boilie Ross also managed two other Carp at 12lb. (This time not the same fish).
