Celebrity Carp Fishing Weekend

In aid of the Meningitis Trust Charity No 803016

A charity carp weekend was organised by members of Chelmsford Angling Association, officials, friends and families. The event took place at the club's Braxted complex and was held over three days, April13th, 14th, and 15th 2007. As many as eight celebrity carp anglers attended and fished at the event including Dave Levy, seen here with a beautifully conditioned common carp. A total of £5000 was raised over the weekend which will be donated to the Meningitis Trust.

The following celebrity anglers gave up their weekend to support the event, so a big thank you to them all: They were Ian 'Chilly' Chilcott, Mike Kavanagh, Kenny Dorsett, Dave Levy, Dave Jordison, Daryl Peck, Scott 'Geezer' Grant. Thanks also to Derek Ritchie and Jim Shelley for their support. Special thanks to all our anglers who made donations to our charity to fish the event. The CAA would also like to extend a huge thank you to Kit Speakman, the landowner, for allowing the event to take place.

The club was also fortunate to have many kind donations of prizes. Thank you to all - Etang Du Molyneux (week fishing for two),  Mid Kent Fisheries, Orchid Lake, Cleverley Mere, Paul Turton (two Chelsea v Bolton tickets), Nash Tackle and Bait, JRC Tackle, Gardner Tackle, Mainline Bait, DT Bait, CC Moores Bait, Rod Hutchinson, Dynamite Bait, Korda, Mo's PVA, England Angling, Ritchworth Angling, Jim Shelley, Fox International, Focus DIY, The Blue Strawberry, Cannons Health Club, Hot Heads in Maldon, The Emporium in Maldon, Sun Studios in Maldon, Marks & Spencer's and Woolworths.
And finally Chelmer Marquees, Ernest Doe & Sons, Bouncy Castle and HSS.

Thanks to chairman Ian Stokes for speech and drawing grand raffle. The event was initially inspired by hearing about two of our members, Gavin Sutton (Bailiff at Braxted) and Stefan reed who both have daughters who have been affected by the devastating disease, meningitis. The weekend saw some good fish.  The largest was a 38.5 lb common carp from the back lake caught by Terry Wilkinson who was fishing with Mike Kavanagh. Ian Chilcott had three twenties from the front lake. Mike Kavanagh had a nice mirror from the back lake. Several nice commons came out the reservoir, biggest being  26lb plus.

The Chelmsford Angling Association would like to thank all those who helped to make the weekend successful and for giving up their time to assist in organising the refreshments, raffle tickets etc. A big thank you to the Environment  Agency, seen here  putting on a superb display, and offering advice and information to visitors.
A massive selection of raffle prizes were donated to the event which in fact took more than an hour to draw.
Thank you to all those above that donated prizes.
