HISTORY,
AIMS AND MANAGEMENT |
| |
| HISTORY OF THE C A A |
|
Since at least
1890, records show that there has been an angling club in Chelmsford.
The CHELMSFORD ANGLING ASSOCIATION is both the oldest and one of the
largest clubs remaining. Established in 1922 the CAA has over 1700
members, controls 3 miles of river fishing, 12 lakes, which includes a
beautiful fishery complex at Boreham, and an attractive lake at Little
Braxted called The Willows which are both owned by the Association. In
addition there is a reservoir near Danbury for Trout fishing. CAA is
totally independent of any company which may restrict membership and
is, therefore, a true members’ club. |
|
THE AIMS OF THE C A A
|
| The aims of the CAA are to
provide and maintain fishing for anglers, organise friendly
competitions, ensure good environmental husbandry and further the
sport of angling generally. Management is the responsibility of a
General Committee, the members of which are elected to serve for
varying periods between 1- 3 years at the club’s AGM which is held in
March each year. |
|
C A A MANAGEMENT
|
| To assist the General Committee
a number of Sub-Committees have been formed; e.g. Fishery Management,
Match, Public Relations, Trout, all comprising of volunteer members.
Their jobs include fishery management, liaison with the Environment
Agency, looking at prospective waters and keeping members informed of
Association activities via the press. The club is also a member of the
National Federation of Anglers, the Essex Angling Consultative
Association and the Chelmsford Sports Council. Management in this way
provides every member with an opportunity to take an active part in
the club. National and local representation keeps us up to date with
developments in the angling world and provides various areas of
expertise, e.g. pollution control, finance, etc. It also ensures that
our members views are fully aired. The Association was very proud to
be awarded the 1981 Sport for All Trophy which is presented by the
Sports Council annually for services to sport. |

New
Car Park at Willows Fishery
Attention All Members |
|
The car
park at Willows has now been completed.
I would like to thank all those involved especially Jim
Upson for providing the club with his time and use of his
own mini digger and roller for free. Thanks Mate most
appreciated. Please drive slowly in the car park. A lot of
hard work and planning has gone in to this project not to
mention the cost of materials.
Paul Bocking - Chairman of Fisheries Management.

The club has partnered up with the Maldon Angling Society to
obtain the lease for this prolific stretch of water. Day tickets
will be available from selected tackle shops, also from bailiffs
on easy accessible sections only. Please observe notice boards
erected along the canal as certain banks will remain out of
